Mornin' Guys n Gals, just saw on the BBC news, this morning, that dozens of customers have been 'snowed in' at the Tan Hill Inn. They've been there since New Years Eve! For the none Brit members of our site, this is the highest pub in Great Britain and is 1732 ft above sea level. Here's a link to their site, which is a place I've visited many times but was never lucky enough to be stranded there! http://www.tanhillinn.co.uk/So where, of interest, have our members been stuck, due to nature weather conditions?

I thought they had a snowmobile thingy there reggie with caterpillar tracks on it. Maybe it was sabotaged so they just 'had to' stay there. I could think of worse places to be stuck,as long as the big fire is roaring, and they dont run out of food and beer,it'd be like an extended holiday.

I got stuck on a roof once as a kid (of our local school), not because of weather conditions though, just larking around, and when the caretaker came, all my friends ran off,so i panicked and jumped off hitting my head and and knocked myself out cold. Not quite the same as Tann Hill but it is funny looking back at it.

Hi Stevey,
the BBC were speaking to a customer on his mobile phone and it sounded like a party was well underway!
The Landlord's been charging people a token £10 per night and everyone's mucking in with food prep etc.
Sounds like a perfect way to start the year to me.
No mention was made of the tracked vehicle, maybe the customers want to keep that one quiet.

I was at a horizons meeting up their early one year and it was so windy I couldn't get my tent up.
They had an ex-army Snow-cat outside, maybe it's just for show. As Reggie says, I could think of worse places to be stuck.
Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads!

For me being stranded due to weather has only happened for work and that's because where i go for work I normally have to fly into airports with gravel landing strips or in on floats . . . but i've been weathered in at Kasabonika Lake, Wunnumin Lake and Longdog (that was a peach, a reserve consisting of 13 houses with no store, supposed to be there for one night, ended up stuck for five days . . . good times)

One of the best things about this Group is the International aspect. I find myself googling words like "Larder", "Chin Wag" etc. Its always fun learning new terms.. (many Thanks to our UK friends)
And to think I came here for XT225 Repair info.. All the rest is a Bonus.. Hi Foamfollower, I reckon we should have a Brit to US dictionary/phrase book but I must admit to really enjoying the differences (even though my Apple spell checker defaults to US spellings).
